Relationship between harvesting indices and seed quality of Tainan 9 and NC 2 peanuts
1987
Montana Nontaritt
Pod yield and seed yield of Tainan 9 peanut were not affected by different planting dates but delayed harvest beyond 106 days after planting progressively decreased yield. NC 2 cultivar yield was affected by different planting dates and different harvesting dates. The number of Tainan 9 mature pods as determined by SMP were not different when planted and harvested at different time, delay planting and harvesting lowered the weight of mature pods, But NC2 no difference. The two peanut cultivars at different planting date as maturity was classified by the IPC (Internal Pericarp Color) was found no difference in percentage of mature pod number and mature pod weight. The practical and suitable harvest indices were SMP (sound matured pod) and SHMI (seed hull maturity index). Maximum yield was obtained when the harvesting index was at 3.3 in Tainan 9 and 2.6 in NC2 as maturity was determined by SHMI. The different planting dates and harvesting dates did not affect Tainan 9 peanut seed quality, but seed germination seed vigor and seed weight of NC2 were affected by different planting dates and harvesting dates.
