Determination of optimum sowing density in growing the winter wheat on chernozem and pseudogley

This paper deals with the influence of sowing density (crops density) on essential fertility features and winter wheat grains yield on degraded chernozem and pseudogley. The sowing density was within 350-750 germinated grains/m2, with an interval of increase of 100/grains/m2. Based on the results of the research, it was found out that the increase of sowing density resulted in an increase of ears/m2, but on both locations the productive clustering was less with densier crops, also depending on number of sprouted plants. In densier crops, the number and mass of grains per ear were decreased (max. decrease on chernozem was 7.6 (13.4%) and 13,2 (12,4%) on pseudogley. Grain yield per hectare was not as expected. However, the greatest average yield of grains on chernozem was in the variant of the highest sowing density - 750 germinated grains/m2 (5,91 t/ha), and 650 germinated grains/m2 (7,89 t/ha) on pseudogley. A greater average yield of grains was achieved on pseudogley in spite of bad properties of this type of soil. Such increase of yield, in relation to that achieved on chernozem, is mainly a result of humidity conditions favourable for growing of plants on such location.
