The effect of growing area pro one plant on the growth of leaves and sugar beet yield

Examining the growing of sugar-beet leaves on OS Optima variety in 1985 with four different combinations-from 66,277 to 100,375 plants/ha and with three distances between the rows - 40,45 and 50 cm, the investigations are carried out in the year with shortage of rainfalls and lower temerature in June, but higher in May, July and August. From the germination - 24th April to 10th September plant of sugar beet built in average 45 leaves. In this period each 3 days has developed 1 leave and the most fast development was noted from 20 th May to the 7th of June. The intensive growth in second part of June was stopped due to unfavourable climatic conditions (cold and rainy period). Considerably more leaves were wellgrown in conditions with the larger surface and when distance between the pows was larger. On the other side the destroying of leaves happened 1 leave in 8 days. A little bit of leaves disappeared with smaller growing surface. The bighest length and width was achieved on 10th August and it was 21,3 cm respectively 14,2 cm. The largest surface of the leaves was established on 10th August, and the highest value with 4,427 cm2/1 plant was measured with the population of 81,967 plants/ha. The best index for leaves surface (ratio between leaves and soil surface) - 3.63 as obtained with growing surface from 1,221 cm2 resp. 81,967 plants/ha.
