Effect of the use of GeomycinR powder with disinfectant (Pliva), including new formulation with chlorhexadine, on chick productivity and health

The effect of Geomycin powder with disinfectant for poultry ("PLIVA"-Yugoslavia) standard and innovated formulation, on productivity stimulation and health protection, has been investigated on 143 broilers of Hybro breed. The difference between the standard and innovated preparation consisted in the substitution of disinfectant contained in the standard product (1 g = 55 mg benzethonium chloride) with chlorhexidine gluconate (1 g = 35 mg) in the new formulation. The obtained results were compared with those in the control group given no additive. They showed equal or somewhat better efficiency of the new preparation compared to the standard one. As regards mode of administration better results were achieved by administration in drinking water and at an earlier age (0-30 days). During observation period (50 days) weight gain and feed conversion were improved by 9.6% and 2.7% resp. with innovated preparation and by 5.2% and 0.5% resp. with the standard preparation. In addition to stimulation of productivity, both preparations exerted a favourable effect on bird health.
