A survey of pond fishery resources in Trisal upazilla under Mymensingh district was conducted to determine the number of ponds with area and size, physical conditions and methods of fish culture along with existing problems. Results of the present study indicated that the most of the non-derelict ponds were cultured traditionally which could be improved through extension services. Lack of knowledge about fish culture was found to be one of the most important problems of fish culture. Among others, multiple ownership, lack of guidance and supervision were the main constraints to pond fish culture. These problems could be solved by (i) motivating the pond owners to adopt modern fish culture technology and ensuring their proper training on scientific fish culture and (ii) providing adequate credit facilities to the poor farmers and leasing out the ponds under multiple ownership to an interested person/group.
