Bacterial titre in water of different sources [in Bangladesh]

Out of the total 690 samples obtained from different sources viz., tap, tubewell, pond, river and sea water examined, 58% were found positive for fecal streptococci, 77% E. coli, 35% Salmonella paratyphi and 101% Shigella, of which 40% were Shigella dysenterias, 28% Shigella flexneti and 30% Shigella sonnei. The highest recovery of bacterial isolates was obtained in pond water and the lowest in tubewell water.
