The role of opinion leaders in the transfer of modern agricultural technologies to small farmers [in Bangladesh]

The purpose of this study was to identify the opinion leaders in Akua union under Sadar Upazila of Mymensingh district and to determine their role in the transfer of modern agricultural technologies to small farmers. Data were collected from the farmers of two selected Blocks, out of four, of the Akua union in two phases. The findings revealed that the small farmers adoption of modern agricultural technologies had significant positive correlation with (i) their contact with the opinion leaders, and (ii) their satisfaction on the knowledgeability and source credibility of the opinion leaders. Further, the findings indicate that small farmers (i) who had higher communication with other information sources, (ii) who gave much importance of the advice of opinion leaders, and (iii) who received more follow-up care from the opinion leaders had also higher adoption of modern agricultural technologies, had higher contact with the opinion leaders, and higher satisfaction on the knowledgeability and source credibility of the opinion leaders as communication source.
