Responsiveness of males to female pheromones of the pulse beetle, Callosobruchus chinensis (L) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) at different light intensities
1990
Islam, M.N. (Bangladesh Agricultural Research Inst. Joydebpur, (Bangladesh))
The effect of light intensities on the responsiveness of male pulse beetle, Callosobruchus chinensis (L), to female pheromone extract was investigated. The result has shown that significantly highest number of males was attracted to female pheromones when bioassayed in dim light (45 lux) than in bright light (2400 lux) or in complete darkness (0 lux). The female pheromone attracted statistically equal number of males in both bright light and in dark. However, the male beetles were found to be most responsive to female extract in dim light although they were active in all light conditions.
