Effect of Rhizoctonia solani (Khun) infection on nitrogen content of rice varieties [Bangladesh]

Three varieties and two advanced lines of rice were selected to study the changes of nitrogen content in the leaf sheath of plants infected with Rhizoctonia solani (Khun). Nitrogen content was different in the rice varieties and lines. During growth, N content increased up to the panicle initiation stage and thereafter declined. In plants infected with Rhizoctonia solani, nitrogen content increased in diseased plants compared to healthy plants, but the extent of increase was more pronounced in highly susceptible varieties compared to that found in the moderately susceptible or moderately resistant varieties.
