Characteristic of humus of brown mountain forest soils from the region of the Western Rhodopes

It was found that under conditions of Peshtera-Batak region of Western Rhodopes, on acidic rocks (rhyolites and gneisses) brown mountain forest soils of prevailing average humus content (4 up to 6) are found in the surface horizons, while those of low content are in the lower horizons, with huminic acids either free low molecular, or bound with mobile oxides of iron and aluminium, and humate-fulvate up to fulvate humus. As regards these soils, very high up to average supply with nitrogen (C/N from 10 up to23) is typical in horizon A, as well as an average nitrogen supply in horizon B (C/N from 8 up to 11). A trend has been found towards an increase in the percentage content and humus supply (t/ha) in horizon A along with an increase in the altitude.
