The effect of post-emergence application of phosphorus to soil with low available phosphorus has received little attention in the country. Although post-emergence applications of phosphorus are not a recommended practice decisions must be taken when deficiency of this nutrient appears early in the growing season. The objective of this work was to study the corn response to phosphorus fertilizer applied as foliar spray, as a deep side band, and a superficial side band soon after corn seedling showed phosphorus deficiency symptoms. Grain yield, and phosphorus concentration in leaves and roots of corn plant fertilized with phosphorus were not significantly different from the control without fertilization. Phosphorus deficiency disappeared as soil temperature increased probably as a consequence of a greater root volume and soil exploitation
