Prasad, N.K. | Srivastava, G.C. (Indian Agricultural Research Inst., New Delphi (India). Div. of Plant Physiology)
Experiments were conducted in the pot culture on 90-d old sunflower plants with an aim to understand potencies of partial light reactions and net photosynthesis in developing, fully mature and senescing leaves along with bracts. Maximum net photosynthetic rate (PN) was observed in fully mature leaves followed by developing and senescing leaves, respectively. Chlorophyll content also showed a similar trend. On the contrary, uncoupled rate of photosystem 1 (PS1) was high in senescing as compared to developing and mature leaves. The bract exhibited the lowest PN, although the whole chain electron transport rate was similar to that of fully mature leaves.
