Three different possibilities of combining Shorea johorensis, S. fallax, S. pauciflora, S. cf. polyandra, S. leprosula, S. smithiana, Dryobalanops lanceolata with fast growing species like Leucaena sp., Paraserianthe sp. and Anthocephallus sp. were investigated. In the first experiment, dipterocarps were planted in 1984 under a stand of three-year old fast growing species. Growth performance (height, diameter) of S. johorensis under Leucaena was significantly better than the growth of the other dipterocarps. In the second experiment S. leprosula and S. smithiana were planted under one-year old stand of Paraserianthes. All growth parameters of S. leprosula were better than of S. smithiana. The results of the third experiment indicated that the growth of S. leprosula and S. parvifolia mixed in plantations with Paraserianthes is better than in pure plantation, even if the species are planted at the same time.
