Compatability of Rhizobium inoculants on some peanut varieties

The yield of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) grown on red yellow podzolic soils in Lampung is often very low. Field experiment was conducted to clarify the compatability of rhizobium inoculants with varieties on root-nodule development, N uptake, growth and yield of peanut grown on acid mineral soil at farmer's field in Way Abung, North Lampung. The experiment was conducted during the wet season 1985/86, using a split-plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of three peanut varieties, namely a local variety from Lampung, Gajah and Robut 33-1. The sub plots were three rhizobium inoculants; Legin, Nitragin and NC-92. The results indicated that there was no interaction between rhizobium inoculation and peanut varieties. Robut 33-1 and Gajah varieties increased number and weight of nodules on 40 and 60 days after planting, total uptake of N, weight of filled pods-biomass ratio, number of filled pods per plant, 100 seed weight, and yield. NC-92 nitragin rhizobium inoculants significantly increased number and weight of nodules, total N uptake, chlorophyll leaf content, weight of filled pods-biomass ratio, 100 seed weight, and yield. Dry pods yield weight was significantly correlated with number and weight of root-nodules, chlorophill of leaves, weight of filled pods-biomass ratio, and 100 seed weight.
