Nitrification and urea hydrolysis in some southern Iraqi soils
1989
Al-Jaberi, M.M.
The main objective of this study was to study the N mineralization and nitrification processes in some Iraqi soils, urea hydrolysis and urease activity were also ivestigated. The findings can be summarized as follows: cumulative amount of nitrogen mineralized was increased significantly with the addition of organic material and it was linearly related with the time of incubation at 35 degrees C, nitrogen mineralization was increased significantly with the increasing soil salinity, cumulative amount of nitrate was increased with soil amended with various N sources, urea hydrolysis was increased significantly with the soil amended with organic materials and this varied significantly depending on the soil and organic material and it was increased significantly with salinized soil, also the addition of organic materials to the soils increased urea hydrolysis more than nitrate formation
