Study on the level of infection on pasture contaminated with Dictyocaulus filaria larvae in Baghdad area
1989
Iwdish, A.A.
This research was conducted to study the level of infection with Dictyocaulus filaria in tracer lambs which has been allowed to graze on a farm carefully. The parameters used in this study were: the appearance and severity of clinical sign in lambs, number of larvae per gram of faeces, total leukocyte count, total eosinophil count, body weight gain, worms present in the lungs and gross pathological lung changes. Also the number of larvae per kg of pasture and per 1.5 kg of soil was examined and correlated with the information on the meteorological data presented by the Iraqi meteorological organization. The results showed that the use of traces lambs was a more sensitive way of detecting the level of pasture contamination than direct examination of pasture and soil samples.
