Effect of high tea plant density on harvest index and yields - a progress report
1991
Njuguna, C.K. | Magambo, M.J.S. (Tea Research Foundation, Kericho (Kenya))
Tea plants of clone 31/8 were planted at different spacings and brought to bearing at two different heights. Their annual harvest indices were determined over a number of years and showed that the higher the plant density (population) the higher the harvest index. The tea bushes planted at higher density and plucked at lower level had higher harvest index than those plucked at higher level and at low density. The cumulative yields from May 1980 to Sep. 1991 continued to show that the higher the population the higher the yield. The results and their implications are discussed.
