The fish catch of set net fisheries undergoes large variations depending on the seasons of the year, fishery resources, oceanographic conditions, incoming rate of fish in migration and quantity of migrating fish. To theoretically correlate a fish catch to these conditions, it is essential to have a quantitative presentation of the relationship between the biological phenomena called fishing conditions and physical phenomena termed oceanographic conditions. In the absence of a theoretical approach, studies were made on the mackerel catch in Sagami Bay during the autumn fishing season. First, data for 1981 were subjected to Principal Component Analysis with sea surface temperatures at six stationary points within the Sagami Bay and peripheral sea areas. After confirming that three principal components can effectively represent respective oceanography conditions, the means of their 5-day scores were obtained and denoted by Z(it), where (i) is the number of the principal component and (t) is the number in a time series
