Evaluation on the efficacy of avermectin B1 against Plutella xylostella in cabbage at Cameron Highlands

In view of the severity of the infestation of Plutella xylostella L. in cabbage in Cameron Highlands and the lack of novel insecticides to effectively control the pest, three field trials were conducted at the highlands in 1988. Results from these trials had confirmed that avermectin bl was highly effective against the larvae of Plutella xylostella in cabbage. Tdflubenzuron even at 300 g a.i./ha was not effective against the pest. The efficacy of the combinations of avermectin bl with white oil and triazophos respectively were comparable to avermectin bl alone. The use of avermectin bl within spray programmes was discussed.
