Aibika (Abelmoschus manihot) germplasm in Papua New Guinea

Abika is an important leafy vegetable commonly grown throughout PNG and the Pacific Islands. Observations on the current state of germplasm indicate a wide range of variation in its morphological and other characteristics. This seems to suggest the PNG is an important centre of diversity for this species. A field germplasm of 112 accessions is housed at the Department and morphological description was conducted using IBPGR descriptors with local modification.
