Communication, group characteristics and group communication productivity of small farmers groups in two districts of West Java, Indonesia

The study attempted to identify and determine communication related factors, demographic characteristics and group characteristics that can contribute to group communication productivity of small farmers groups (SFGs). Findings showed that group communication productivity tended to be affected by a) sex of respondents, b) the type of formal education attended by respondents, c) the main source of income, d) radio and tv ownership, e) radio program preference, f) respondents' listening to rural radio program, g) personal communication network patterns, h) number of visits by field extension workers (FEW) and village officials, i) purpose of visits by other officials, j) the availability of village information centers, k) the distance from respondent's houses to the rural extension centers (REC) and the village office, l) the age of SFG, m) number of SFG members, and n) the type of SFG.
