Yielding of sugar beets and weediness of plantations on eroded loess soils

The yield, its features and weediness of sugar beets, cultivated in 1983-86 on eroded loess soils in 3 relief elements: valley, slope (inclination of 17 percent) and upland are presented. Higher mean yield of roots and leaves has been found in the valley (55.0 and 51.9 t/ha), while lower one by 18 and 46 percent respectively on upland and by 20 and 50 percent, respectively on slope. Higher sugar and dry matter content showed roots from the treatment on slope and upland than in valley. The field weediness differed depending on the field position. The highest number and the highest air-dry matter of weeds were recorded on the slope while the richest with regard to species in valley
