The economic and technological value of 48 cultivars and lines of barley was estimated in the tests in 1986-88. The material for tests was obtained in experiments established in 5 localities in different country regions. Among the forms tested 33 cultivars were bred abroad, mainly in Czechoslovakia and German Democratic Republic. The economic value was estimated on the basis of yielding, stem length, resistance to lodging and fungal diseases, weight of 1000 seeds, filling of grain. Technological quality was estimated after malting grain, on the basis of the protein content, extractability, cytolytic, proteolytic and amylolytic activity of enzymes of malt. On the basis of calculation of correlation coefficients the relationship between the yield and other traits has been determined. Most favourable economic and technological traits showed Korinna cultivar
