Development of the black bean aphid (Aphis fabae Scop.) on red beets in relation to the chemical composition of the leaves

The most successful development of the pest was found on the cultivar Okragly Ciemnoczerwony. The leaves of this cultivar contained the highest percentage of sucrose in total sugars, a large share of protein nitrogen in total N, and the highest proteins : sugars ratio. On plants of the cultivar Egipski and Czerwona Kula, which were characterized by a higher content of sugars (especially reducing ones) and nitrogen compounds, the development of this aphid was much less intense
