Investigation on the qualities of egg of different genetic groups of bird in different seasons [in Bangladesh]

An investigation was conducted to explore the effect of different genotypes and seasons on some major egg quality traits. Egg weight of high producing breed varied from 69.6 to 59.3 g which were significantly higher than indigenous (INP) (38.4 g). Specific gravity were found almost same having no significant difference among the genotypes. The shell thickness of Australop (AUS) breed were significantly lower than the rest three (WL, RIR,IND) genotypes. Seasons had a negligible effect on egg weight, specific gravity and shell thickness of different genotypes. Egg length and diameter were significantly (PLOO1) higher in exotic breed than the IND bird. Significantly higher albumen height was observed in White Leghorn (WL) and Rhode island Red (RIR) the lowest in IND bird. Albumen diameter was significantly highest in WL, lowest in IND, almost similar in RIR and AUS. The yolk height and diameter were significantly lower in IND than other three genotypes. Shape in dex, albumen index and Hugh unit were significantly higher in Wl and RIR and lower in IND. Almost no significant effect of season on the egg qualities of different genotypes was noticed. From the results it is indicated that egg quality of WL, RIR and AUS is found superior than indigenous chicken.
