Variability of quantitative characters in some promising advanced generation lines of rice [in Bangladesh]
1990
Patwary, A.K.
Eleven promising advanced generation lines of rice along with a standard variety, BR4 were grown in a randomized block design with three replications. Seven important quantitative characters were studied. Analysis of variance showed that there was highly significant differences among the genotypes for almost all the characters studied except number of effective tillers/plant and yield/plot. CD test showed that there were a few lines that were equal or superior to the standard check for one or the other characters; days to maturity, plant height, panicle length/plant and fertile grains/panicle were quite high. As such all these characters showed high heritability. On the other hand the genotypic variance for the characters; sterility/panicle, number of effective tillers/plant and yield/plot were quite low and as such showed medium to low heritability.
