Cost of fertilizer and its effect on profitability of growing mustard [in Bangladesh]
1993
Alam, M.S. | Rahman, M.M. (Bangladesh Agricultural Research Inst., Gazipur (Bangladesh). On-farm Research Div.)
The reduced return to cooperator farmers is primarily a consequence of poor response to higher rates of use of fertilizer on the yield of mustard. Farmers, on an average, paid more than 17% of the government fixed price for chemical fertilizers. This higher cost of fertilizer reduced the control farmers' gross margin by about 2 percent and that of the cooperator farmers by about 5 percent. In per taka investment, returns to fertilizer declined from Tk. 4.98 to Tk. 4.18 for the control farmers and from Tk. 2.46 to 2.09 for cooperator farmers.
