Young maize plants of cv. Knezha 2L-611, grown as hydroponics, were used in the experiment. The present investigation was conducted with the aim of observing the course of changes in total, protein and non-protein nitrogen in plants depending on zinc content in their organs which differed due to their various nutritional regimes - zinc deficit and induced zinc deficiency produced by raised phosphorus content in the nutrient substratum. The results showed that zinc deficit in the nutrient medium and zinc deficiency induced by increased phosphorus content had unidirectional effect on young maize plants.
