Concerning gross energy, there are almost no differences between the species and varieties of clover. In case of threefold cutting the content of metabolizable energy in the harvest of the first cut is higher than that in the dry matter and organic matter of the first cut of the twofold cutting harvested later. In the dry matter of white clover the concentration of metabolizable energy decreases from the first up to the third cutting. There is almost no difference between the studied varieties of timothy concerning their content of dry matter and organic matter. The energy content depends mainly on the age and stage of development of shoots, and not so much on liquid fertilization with nitrogen. In case of threefold cutting the content of metabolizable energy of organic matter decreases from the first up to the last cutting
