Soil bioactivity, persistence, and leaching of cinmethylin, imazaquin and metazachlor

In field and greenhouse studies, cinmethylin, imazaquin and metazachlor were evaluated for their relative: a) persistence in the field, b) bioactivity as affected by soil type and time, and c) leaching in three tobacco soils, Metazachlor was the less persistent herbicide remaining active up to 60 days. Cinmethulin and imazaquin persisted up to 90 days as preemergence and up to 120 days as preplant incorporated. For all three herbicides, bioactivity decreased from a lighter, to a heavier to a high in organic matter soil type. Leaching was distinct for each herbicide and soil type. The relative mobility of the three herbicides decreased in the order: imazaquin, metazachlor, cinmethylin. Cinmethylin did nor leach appreciably in any soil type examined in this study.
