1983
Bizantinopoulos, S. (Ministry of Agriculture, Athens (Greece). Plant Protection Division.)
The usefulness of herbicide antidotes in modern agricultural practice is briefly reviewed. The evolution of antidotes is described beginning with the initial observation by Hoffman (1947) on antagonism of 2,4-D by 2,4,6-T which led to the development of the first chemical antidote, 1,8-naphthalic anhydride. The mode of action of the most important herbicide antidotes is also reviewed and future prospects for research in the field of antidotes are discussed.
