In a programme designed to assist practical production, the individual trends in 17 phytotechnical parameters were analysed in detail. The optimum values of the parameters can be determined in well-managed vineyards at favourable growing sites. Fertility coefficient provides a great deal of information. The absolute fertility coefficient is the ratio of the total number of clusters developing on the vines to the total number of fruit-bearing branches, which now exhibits values far greater than those achieved with traditional cultivation methods, due to the introduction of intensive methods of cultivation and to the formation of a larger number of clusters per branch. If shoots and clusters are selected, considerable changes occur in the phytotechnical parameters of the vines a knowledge of which enables the yield and grape quality to be favourably influenced by an advantage bud, shoot and cluster lead on the vines
