Examination of excretion dynamics and residues of thiamuline-oxytetracyclin combination in pigs and chicks

Thiamuline and oxytetracyclin are very frequently used drugs in pigs and poultry. Their combination in a 1:3 ratio (Thiacyclin pulv.a.u.v.) has a synergetic effect on the Gram-negative bacterium strains. 21 young pigs were treated for 10 days with drinking water containingthis combination, 2k growing pigs were given feed containing antibiotics, and 30 chicks were given medicated drinking water for 3 days. When the treatments were completed, a certain number of animals from each group were exsanguinated. Samples were taken from the muscle, liver, kidney and farry tissue. The concentration of the antibiotics in the tissues was determined by agar diffusion method. Thiamulin residues were detected in a quantity of 1.6 microgram with the Micrococcus luteus strain and in 8.7 microgram/kg with the Bacillus subtilis BGA culture. Antibiotics were found in the largest amount in the liver tissue, their half-life was 4.8-8.8 days. Therefore the withdrawal time is 2 weeks
