The use of plant growth regulators in winter wheat seed production

In a two year trial plant growth regulators, containing chlormequat and ethephon were tested using the Jubilejnaja 50 winter wheat variety at the research field of the Agricultural University of Godollo in Nagygombos. The treatments were applied at the critical growth stage of the cereales. It has been concluded that the 660 g/l ethephon + 500 g/l chlormequat treatment had the largest effect in the height reduction, but in some cases yield losses appear. The chlormequat + ethephon + microelements treatment beyond the height reduction increases the yield, which can be due to the increase of the number of spikes. The effect of the chlormequat on the plant height depends on the year-effect. The ethephon + microelements has no effect on the plant height. Plant growth regulators used alone had no effect on the yield. The effect on the thousand grain weight was not consequent. The treatments had no significant effect on the germinative ability
