Critical level of NaHCO3 extractable P to wheat and barley under different soil water levels in three soil types

Three levels of NaHCO3 extractable P (5, 7.5, and 10 ppm) were established in three soil types. Wheat and barley were planted under each P level,in which three levels of available soil water (60, 80 and 100% FC) were maintained until maturity. Results indicated that the most effective level of NaHCO3 extractable P was 7.5 ppm. All studied parameters-total, straw and grain yields, also fresh weight of roots for both wheat and barley were significantly increased in all soils at the 7.5 ppm extractable P level. Plant response to the extractable P level in soils was in the order of: Ramtha, Maru and finally Mushaggar. Highest values of the total yield and its components were obtained at moisture level of 80% FC or higher, except for the roots weight which was constant at the whole range of available soil moisture levels - 60% to 100% FC. Grain-P was almost consistent under the different extractable P and moisture levels. Barley was more responsive to high extractable P (10ppm) and moisture levels than the wheat in all soils
