The relation between fertilizer application and the plasma mineral levels of grazing cows was studied. A pasture ws divided into 2 areas (area with conventional fertilizer application and area with improved fertilizer application). The area with conventional fertilizer application received Nitrogen: 171 kg, Phosphorus Oxide: 111 kg, and Potassium Oxide: 171 kg per ha per year. The area with improved fertilizer application received Nitrogen: 171 kg, Phosphorus Oxide: 128 kg, Potassium Oxide: 42 kg, Magnesium Oxide: 84 kg, Calcium Oxide: 117 kg per ha per year, and 2 areas received Dolomite: 2,400 kg per ha per year. These treatments were aimed at preventing hypomagnesemia and grass tetany in 1984. Thirteen Japanese black cows were each grazed in area with conventional and improved fertilizer applications, respectively from April to November. All the pregnant cows calved in March, and their calves were weaned in October. Blood samples were taken from all the cows at two week intervals during the g razing period. The content of Magnesium, Potassium, Urea-Nitrogen and inorganic phosphorus in the blood plasma was analyzed with a Hitachi 750 autoanalyzer
