The study was carried out to analyze the effect of shading on June drop in Japanese persimmon cv. "Fuyu". Pollinated fruit containing three or more seeds hardly dropped even when the light intensity way reduced to 18%. In contrast, fruit in which pollination was blocked by bagging during bloom dropped at a rate of 40.0-93.6% even when the trees were not shaded. Single spray of 250 ppm GA3, L-Canaline or IAA reduced the incidence of June drop in bagged fruit. Spray of GA3 and IAA mixture did not suppress fruit drop. Endogenous IAA content decreased in the sepal, but not in the flesh of fruit exposed to a light intensity reduced to 18%. Ethylene production and ACC content of the non-pollinated fruit were high at 15 days after full bloom
