Effects of branching position and place of fertilizer application on growth and yield of sweet pepper

To investigate the effects of branching position and place of fertilizer application on growth and yield of sweet pepper, 48-day-old "Suin-sakigake" plants were used. Four 2nd-order branches in A-branch plot or two 1st-order branches and two lateral shoots below the 1st flower in B-branch plot were used as main shoots. In addition the plants in every branch plot were fertilized with basal manure or side dressing, the every shoot was trained in the angle of 30 or 60 degrees. Plant growth and fruit development were measured till 100 days after planting. Total fresh weight per plant, leaf area, rooting zone, yield per plant, percentage of normal fruit and mean fruit weight increased in A-branch plot than in B-branch plot, in basal manure plot than in side dressing plot, and in 30 degrees angle plot than in 60 degrees angle plot. Significant correlations were recognized between the yield per plant and the number of roots thicker than 1mm in diameter and the total leaf area. From these results, it showed that plant growth in the A-branch, basal manure and 30 degrees angel plots was luxuriant and the total yield per plant increased. As estimated the fresh weight, root number, and LAI increased and that NAR, the fruit quality and yield were promoted
