The article is devoted to the problem of growing maize for silage as cattle feed for milk and meat production on individual farms in Latvia. The different technologies tested in 1992, are described. Dry matter content and its changes during vegetation are analized. The importance of fermentation in silage making as well as the freezing of the green mass is discuseed. The results of the experiments are shown in tables.
