Potential of Crotalaria juncea as green manure intercrop for sugarcane
1991
Gerardino, M.C. | Hombrebueno, E.M. | Cosico, L.C.
Results of the study showed that Crotalaria juncea incorporated 45 days after seeding significantly increased cane and sugar yields by 28.96%-32.53% and 27.55%-33.64%, respectively on the dry season planting. In the same manner, significant increase of 48.48%-72.25% and 50.55%-73.27% was observed on the wet season planting. This significant increase in yield on both seasons of planting was attributed to the significant increase in stalk diameter and stalk weight at harvest. Tiller survival increased by 11.38% with green manuring. The number of millable stalks was reduced at harvest but this reduction was not significant. Crotalaria juncea seeded at 40 kg/ha and 60 kg/ha 30 days after planting of the main crop and turning-under 45 days after seeding significantly reduced the dry matter weight of weeds by 20.03% and 32.75%, respectively. There was no observed reduction on dry matter weight by seeding only 20 kg/ha of Crotalaria seeds
