Efficacy of advance against weeds infesting transplanted rice

The data gathered were: (1) crop tolerance 15, 3, 7, 14, and 21 days after herbicide treatment (DAA); (2) weed control efficiency based on % control of individual species at 14, 21, and 42 DAA; % control of mix weeds (general weed control efficiency at 14, 21, and 42 DAA); and weed density and dry weights at harvest; (3) harvest index based on the number of productive tillers/sq m at one week before harvest and crop yield at 20 sq m at 14% moisture content. Advance herbicide applied at 5 and 7 days after transplanting (DAT) did not cause any crop injury (chlorosis and stunting) on transplanted rice at all evaluation dates (3, 7, 14, and 21 DAA). Excellent control of weeds namely: E. crusgalli, C. difformis, C. iria, F. littoralis, and L. octovalvis was obtained on treated plots from applied with Advance at dosage rates ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 L/ha applied at 5 and 7 DAT. The treatment checks, namely: Rilof-H applied at 1.5 L/ha at 6 DAT and Butachlor 60 EC at 1.5 L/ha applied at 4 DAT gave comparable results with Advance at 1.0 to 1.5 L/ha applied at 5 and 7 DAT. Propanil alone at 350 and 700 gms ai/ha gave the lowest weed control among the treated plots. However, the combination of propanil and butachlor, which are the main ingredients of Advance, at 700 grams a.i. per hectare or 1.0 liter product per hectare gave excellent control of mix weeds in lowland irrigated transplanted rice
