Comparison study on mineral elements in serum of swamp buffalo cow and calve

Blood collection of 40 swamp buffalo cows and 35 calves had been conducted 8 times since the calves were born, and then once a month. The serum of these animals was analyzed for 6 mineral elements, calcium(Ca), phosphorus(P), magnesium(Mg), zinc(Zn), copper(Cu) and iron(Fe). The serum of the calves significantly contained higher level of Ca(8.71 mg%), P(5.03 mg%) and Fe(3.21 ppm) than that of the cows (7.79 mg%, 4.06 mg% and 2.21 ppm respectively). In contrast, Mg content in the serum of the cows(2.18 mg%) was significantly higher than that of the calves (1.78 mg%), but Cu and Zn contents between those did not differ. (P0.05).
