Helminths fauna of Trichogaster pectoralis (Regan) in Changwat Samutprakarn [Thailand]

Studies on the Helminth Parasites of Sepat siam Trichogaster pectoralis (Regan) collected from natural water in Muang District of Samutprakarn Province were studied. It was found that out of the total number of 300 fishes studied, 151 fishes (50.33 %) were infested with the parasites helminth. The highest number of infested helminth was Clinostomum philippinensis (Valasquez, 1959) which was found in 75 fishes (25.00 %). The least number was Gnathostoma spinigerum (Owen, 1936) and Cosmocerca brasiliensis (Travassor, 1925) found in 0.33 % of studied fishes. The distribution of the helminths was 38.00 % in liver, 25.00 % in body cavity, 7.33 % in muscle, 5.33 % in intestine, 3.66 % in scales, 3.00 % in gill and 2.66 % in fins. All studied helminths could be classified into 13 genera, and 13 species as; 5 species of trematode, 6 species of nematodes, 1 species of acanthocephala and 1 species of cestode. The highest percentage of infested helminth was found in September. The least percentage of infested helminth was found in November.
