Physiological development of cashew nut on canopy, flower and fruit

Study on classification of canopy size, found that the number of stomata varies directly to the canopy size. Another indicator of canopy size is determination by chlorophyll content in leaf about 5-60 days. The chlorophyll content of dwarf canopy is higher than those of medium and large ones. The portable chlorophyll meter facilitates this operation. The study on biology of flower and fruit found that a close relationship between flowering and shoot elongation and leaf development has been observed in cashewnut. The nut reached maximum size in 4 weeks after fruit set, hardened in the subsequent week and declined in size by 10 percent at harvest. From the fifth week onwards, when the growth of the nut ceases completely, the peduncle starts growing rapidly and outgrows the nut. The fruit is ripen in 60 days. The effect of plant growth substances found that chemical substances viz. SADH, CCC and paclobutrazol were applied by seed soaking. Paclobutrazol 1000 ppm. induced the dwarfness of seedling. GA3 200 ppm. induced the highest percentage of male flower while GA3 300 ppm. induced the highest percentage of perfect flower, NAA 1,000 ppm. retarded the development of apple within 3 weeks.
