Effects of gamma ray and colchicine on chrysanthemum tea var. "Hangzhou" in aseptic culture were as follows : 1) Effects of gamma ray: the nodes were acute irradiated with gamma rays at the doses of 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and 6 krad. Normal growth was observed at low doses (1-1.5 krad.). At higher dose (2 krad.) dwarf plants were produced. At doses of 3 krad. or higher no growth was observed. Gamma rays caused abnormality on leaf characters but had no effects on chromosome number. 2) Effects of colchicine: The nodes were treated with 0.5 percent colchicine solution at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours for tetraploid production. Twelve tetraploid plants were produced in all treatments of colchicine.
