Comparison of organic fertilizers for reducing the chemical fertilizer applied to corn

This investigation was done to find suitable organic fertilizers (green manure, compost, and cattle manure) in order to reduce the rate of chemical fertilizer applied to corn. The experiment was conducted in 1983 on low organic matter sandy loam soil (0.67 %) at the Northeast Regional Office of Agriculture. A split plot design with 4 replications was employed. The treatments were: green manure, compost, cattle manure and untreated control. Fiver levels of 15-15-15 chemical fertilizer (0, 25 50, 75 and 100 kg/rai) were applied to each treatment, and corn was used as the indicator crop. The result showed that: 1) the corn yield was incresed was the same for each of the organic fertilizers, 3) the organic fertilizer saved 63.7 kg/rai of chemical fertilizer (grade 15-15-15), 4) the corn yield was maximum when organic fertilizer as well as chemical fertilizer was applied, and organic fertilizer together with 50 kg/rai of chemical fertilizer produced the highest income. 5) there was no interaction between the organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer, 6) the corn yields increased in linear relationship with the level of applied chemical fertilizer, and 7) some chemical and physical proporties of soil changed a little during the experiment.
