With the aim to evaluate the general condition and possible degradation of soil in Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) soil samples were collected from 1600 locations. Main chemical properties of soil, the content of harmful and dangerous matters, number of enzymatic activity of microorganisms, pesticide residues and the products of their degradation were studied. The health condition of irrigated soils was specially studied, since salinity and alcalisation occur frequently in irrigated fields. It can be concluded from the results that the soil of Vojvodina are still suitable for the production of quality and safe food.
