Rapid decline in L-acid content in hop cone (Humulus lupulus L.), grown in Vojvodina region (Yugoslavia), resulted, among other things, from virus infection of hop. Presence of all kinds of viruses that reduce yield and quality was noticed in the hop variety collection in the Novi Sad Institute for Field and Vegetable Crops (Yugoslavia). Viruses were also found in production plantations and, in each Backa hop cultivar, NRSV-apple type virus was noticed, too. In chosen plantations, with high yield and high L-acid content, a relatively high percentage of uninfected plants was found. However, some healthy - uninfected plants showed low L-acid content, too.
