The article states that scientific investigation and practical experience have shown that the bont tick and heartwater could become a widespread problem throughout Zimbabwe. Even if safe, effective vaccines and new methods of bont tick control are developed, the presence of the ticks, with or without the disease, throughout the country, would have serious long term economic effects on the cattle industry. Occurrence so far is relatively limited and it is suggested that attention be given to preventing further spread and even planning eradication from certain areas. The disease may not be identified for some time and death may continue even at very low infestations of bont ticks. All the cattle in a newly infected area are susceptible
