Recommendations for lever-operated knapsack and lance spraying of cotton insect pests

The paper gives recommendations as a result of field observations and a survey. Results showed that about 50 of farmers in communal areas of Zimbabwe use the knapsack sprayer fitted with a lance. These farmers use the lance instead of the recommended tailboom because it is cheaper and more versatile. To assist these farmers effectively use the knapsack and lance equipment, Cotton Research Institute embarked on a series of field trials between 1987/88 and 1990/91. Results of this work has led to the formulation of a number of recommendations for using the lever-operated knapsack / lance sprayer for cotton insect pest control
